In a move that blends natural beauty with holistic wellness, Los Angeles has introduced a new city-sponsored sunrise yoga program at Runyon Canyon — and it’s already drawing crowds from every corner of the city.
As of this month, early risers can now greet the day with guided yoga sessions set against panoramic views of downtown LA, the Hollywood sign, and the Pacific Ocean. The program, called Runyon Rise, is part of the city’s broader “Move LA” initiative, aiming to encourage community fitness and mindfulness in open-air settings.
Classes begin promptly at 6:30 a.m. and are led by certified yoga instructors from local studios, rotating weekly to bring fresh perspectives and styles to the mat. The sessions are free to the public and designed to be accessible to all skill levels, from seasoned yogis to complete beginners. Mats are available for rent on-site, though attendees are encouraged to bring their own.
City Councilmember Marisol Vega, who championed the initiative, said the goal is to “redefine the way Angelenos connect with their health, their city, and each other — all before breakfast.” The sessions have already become a favorite among wellness influencers and fitness enthusiasts, with social media lighting up each morning with pastel-hued sunrise photos and peaceful mountain poses.
With LA’s fitness culture already thriving, Runyon Rise is quickly shaping up to be a must-try experience that embodies the essence of the city’s outdoor lifestyle: energizing, inclusive, and beautifully grounded in nature.
